Cardiff City Stadium to host Europa League tie between New Saints v FC Midtjylland
The Cardiff City Stadium has been confirmed as the venue for the Round Three Qualifying fixture between The New Saints and FC Midtjylland.
The New Saints beat Lincoln Red Imps 2-1 in the first leg and drew 1-1 in the away leg to progress to the next round.
Park Hall is unable to host a match beyond the second qualifying round, as it does not meet UEFA requirements.
It means that the Cardiff City Stadium, which is 127.8 miles away would be the only suitable venue for the Welsh Premier League champions to use. In total, The New Saints squad and supporters would make a 255.6 mile round trip to the Cardiff City Stadium and back from Park Hall.
The New Saints confirmed on their website that the Cardiff City Stadium is their chosen venue, should they beat the Lincoln Red Imps. T
The game is scheduled for August the 9th, with The New Saints being at home first. Cardiff City are away at Bournemouth two days later and aren’t scheduled to play at home until August 18th.
Cardiff City Stadium is currently the home stadium of Cardiff City and the Welsh national men’s senior team. It has previously been used to host Pro12 Rugby, a UEFA Super Cup game between Real Madrid and Sevilla, the UEFA Women’s Champions League between Lyon and PSG in 2017, as well as a number of Wales under-21’s and women’s fixtures.
The New Saints have previously played in the South Wales capital before at the Principality Stadium. They played Manchester City back in 2003, where the Citizens ran out 2-0 winners.
