Cardiff Metropolitan Women recruit TEN new players ahead of Women’s Champions League qualifier
Welsh Premier Women’s League side Cardiff Metropolitan Women have recruited ten new players including Wales international Chloe Chivers, ahead of their trip to Ukraine in three weeks time.
Aimee Dagnall, Aimee Phillips, Charlotte Smith, Chloe Chivers, Estelle Randall, Jessica Westhoff, Lucy Finch, Madison Schupbach, Olivia Thompson have all signed terms with Kerry Harris’ side for the upcoming season.
Former Archers captain Robyn Pinder has also returned to Cyncoed Campus, having had a brief spell with fellow Welsh Premier Women’s League side Cyncoed Ladies.
The Archers return to European action after winning the Welsh Premier League title back from Swansea City.
They will play Ukranian champions WFC Zhytlobud-1 Kharkiv, Maltese champions Birkirkara and Romanian champions CFF Olimpia Cluj in three weeks time.
Chivers, 19 made 16 appearances for Oxford United in the Women’s Super-League two last season, scoring five goals. She was their second top goal scorer last season.
She also came on as a substitute in Wales’ 1-0 win over Kazakhstan. In total, she has made 15 appearances, scoring six goals from the Wales U17 team to the senior.
“I’m happy to be back in Wales, playing football off the back of a tough WSL 2 season,” said Chivers to CardiffMetWFC. “To be involved in the Champions League is a great opportunity to gain experience at the highest level.”
Aimee Phillips who is New Zealand born joins from ZFK Spartak Subotica, who is also in UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying. Phillips has experience playing for the New Zealand international team.
Phillips said: “The Archers family has really made me welcome. I love Wales, I love the coaching staff, the sports science team are amazing and the girls always a good laugh. I can’t wait to unleash serious business on the field if given the opportunity. Beast mode activated.”
Schupbach, Smith, Thompson and Westhoff Westhoff all join from the across the pond, from the USA. Schupbach joins the Met from Bowling Green Athletics & Detroit sun and has been described as a ‘tenacious and versatile midfielder’ by her new manager Kerry Harris.
Lucy Finch joins from Midlands side West Bromwich Albion of the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division. West Bromwich Albion finished bottom of their division last season.
“We are delighted to have Lucy join us from WBA. She will undoubtedly strengthen and bring experience to our defence.”
Signing from Cardiff City Ladies is former Bristol City goalkeeper Estelle Randall. She will be battling for the number one spot with Charlotte Smith, who last played for Ledeard Women.
