The South Wales Summer Groundhop 2018: What clubs are hosting games?

The Groundhop of South Wales returns again this summer, falling on August Bank Holiday Weekend with two leagues involved.

The Gwent County League and the South Wales Alliance League will move their fixtures to allow groundhoppers to take in a total of ELEVEN games over the course of a three day weekend.

The Ground hop allows those from all across the UK, to attend fixtures they may not be able to attend any other time of the year, with games usually scheduled for a Saturday afternoon kick-off.

“It’s August Bank Holiday time, and it’s our 17th consecutive Welsh Groundhop – far and away the World’s Longest Running annual Groundhopping event!

We are back with the South Wales Alliance for a final year, with a day also scheduled with the League that will take on the mantle for the next few seasons – the Gwent County League!” said GroundhopUK as they revealed the destinations of the latest groundhop.

This is the 17th time that a Welsh Groundhop has happened. It is the final year that the South Wales Alliance League will have a Ground hop, with the Gwent County League, set to take a more prominent role.

It starts off on a Friday night at Lawrenny Avenue. Canton Liberal host local rivals Grange Albion.

Then we move into a day of the Gwent County League, AC Pontymister host Blaenavon Blues in the day’s first game in Division One. Later on, Villa Dino Christchurch host Newport Civil Service, before the newly formed Pill YMCA host Lliswerry.

Moving on to the Saturday, Vale United and Porthcawl Town are set to host opposition, but that is to be decided yet. New boys Llangeinor and AFC Wattstown will clash at Llangeinor.

Caerphilly Athletic, AFC Whitchurch and then STM Sports OB will complete the Groundhop on Monday.
