Nathaniel MG Cup 2018/2019: Round One Draw
The Welsh Premier League Cup will once again be known as the Nathaniel MG Cup after they renewed their sponsorship.
The competition, which has been sponsored by the South Wales car sales brand for the past two seasons, is the first trophy that Welsh Premier League and second-tier clubs have the chance to get their hands on in 2018/19.
The first round draw will took place on the JD Welsh Premier League’s social media channels on the evening of Monday 6 August.
TNS, Connah’s Quay, Cardiff Met and Newtown were not be involved in the draw, as they have received byes to the second round for reaching the semifinals last season.
Whilst the cup sponsor has stayed the same, it remains to be seen whether TNS can continue their dominance in the competition, having lifted the trophy four consecutive times and eight in total.
They most recently defeated Cardiff Met in the final played at Aberystwyth Town’s Park Avenue ground in January, overcoming the students 1-0.
But this year it could be tougher for TNS, as for the first time the competition’s semi-final stages are national and played on a weekend, adding to the competition’s cup fever feel.
This will also be welcome news to the likes of Connah’s Quay Nomads, who have reached and lost in the semi-final stage for three consecutive seasons, twice in a row against foes TNS.
