Fry signing boosts Barry Town ahead of Sunday’s season opener
Barry Town have today expanded their midfield options with the signing of former Wales U19 international Tom Fry.
The midfielder joins Barry from Scottish League One side Airdrieonians FC, having played much of their 2017/18 campaign with 31 appearances.
Fry, 21, will wear the number 39 shirt as he has for previous clubs Motherwell and Bristol City.
He joins Barry’s all-Welsh squad, which includes new signings Momodou Touray from Newport County, Clayton Greene who re-joined the club from Carmarthen, and Marcus Jones, a creative midfielder who was influential for Taffs Well last season.
They will be looking to build on the foundations of a successful first season back in the top flight for Barry.
Despite missing out on the top six, they went unbeaten in phase two and reached the play off semi final stage, where they were defeated 4-1 by rivals Cardiff Met.
Their 2018/19 campaign gets underway on Sunday when they travel to The New Saints.
Many a side would rue such a tough fixture in their opening game, but Barry will take inspiration from their last visit to Park Hall, when they defeated TNS 1-0 in a rare home loss for the Champions.
Their first fixture at Jenner Park is against Bala Town on Sunday 19 August, before they clash with Llanelli Town on Friday 24 August in a huge derby at Stebonheath.
Manager Gavin Chesterfield told the club’s official Facebook page: “Tom is an exciting attacking midfielder with a good pedigree. He has impressed during pre season and fitted very well into the squad. I feel he suits our style of play and I’m looking forward to working with him”.
