Nathaniel MG Cup second round draw: New Saints begin defence at Bastion Gardens

Current cup holders The New Saints will travel to Bastion Gardens in their defence of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

In today’s draw in the Nathaniel MG showroom in Cardiff, Scott Ruscoe’s side were drawn to recently relegated Prestatyn Town.

Since their sponsorship of the tournament, The New Saints have won the Nathaniel MG Cup for the last four years.

Their opponents, The Seasiders are almost completely a new side, having seen a number of players depart the North Wales club.

Giant killers Cambrian BGC who knocked out Barry Town United on penalties, thanks to ex Linnet Dan Bradley, have been handed another home tie, this time to Mid Wales side Aberystwyth Town.

There will be a guaranteed representation in Round Three of the League Cup after Haverfordwest County drew Goytre United.

The Bluebirds, who were without former Football League star Lee Trundle, saw off the 41-year-old’s former employers, with a 3-0 victory at the Bridge Meadow on Tuesday evening.

Goytre United saw off Afan Lido in the Port Talbot Derby in the previous round, with a brace from Thomas Walters.

Penybont, who beat Ton Pentre in the previous round, will travel to Mid Wales to play Newtown.

It’s an all-Welsh Premier League clash, as losing finalists Cardiff Metropolitan host Carmarthen Town at Cyncoed Campus.

All Southern ties are scheduled to be played on the 25th of September.

Former Welsh Premier League side Rhyl will play Llandudno, after their two-goal turnaround against Caernarfon, saw them run out 4-2 winners at Belle Vue Stadium.

Losing semi-finalists Connah’s Quay Nomads, will host Airbus UK, after the Wingmakers knocked out Cefn Druids one extra time, thanks to ex-Ancient Lewis Buckley.

Niall McGuinness’ side Flint Town United will host 2017 Welsh Cup winners Bala Town.
