Aber stun Bala, Jones scores first Barry goal and Llandudno make it two from two
Match week six of the JD Welsh Premier League has come to a close, but the results throughout the weekend have kept the top flight as open as ever.
Connah’s Quay Nomads 3-1 Newtown
Connah’s Quay continued their press for the top-spot with an impressive win over Newtown this weekend. A first minute goal from James Owen set the tone for the game, as second-half finishes from Ryan Wignall and Callum Morris were enough to secure the three points despite a late consolation from Luke Boundford.
Llanelli 0-2 The New Saints
The New Saints grabbed their fifth win of the year away to Llanelli this Saturday, as an early goal from Aeron Edwards and a Chris Thomas own goal were enough to take the tie, as the Welsh Premier League new boys failed to register a goal against the defending champions.
Caernarfon 0-1 Barry Town
Barry Town grabbed their third win of the campaign against Caernarfon, as Marcus Jones claimed the three points for the visitors at the death, with Clive Williams seeing red in the 77th minute for the home side.
Cefn Druids 4-0 Carmarthen
Cefn Druids put a dent in their misfortunes as they returned to winning ways with a four-goal slamming over Carmarthen. Two early goals from Ryan Kershaw and Nathan Peate put the Druids in control of the game, as late finishes from Jordan Evans and Dean Rittenberg sealed any doubts.
Aberystwyth 3-2 Bala Town
Aberystwyth claimed a valuable win over Bala Town this weekend, in a five-goal thriller that saw a tense ending to the tie. A first-half finish from Geoff Kellaway, meant the home side led at the break, but Bala found their way back into the game with Mike Hayes drawing it level.
Porya Ahmadi and Ashley Ruane gave Aberystwyth a two-goal lead towards the end of the game, but a 91st-minute penalty meant that the game had a thrilling end, but it was not to be for the visitors.
Cardiff Metropolitan University 0-1 Llandudno
Llandudno earnt their first away win since January with an impressive clean sheet bonus to boost against Cardiff Metropolitan University this weekend.
Toby Jones grabbed the only goal of the game after the Archers wasted number of opportunities on the day, but ultimately came up short.
