Welsh Football League Game Week Five: Round-up

Promotion hopefuls Penybont put five goals past Ton Pentre on Saturday. The victory means that Rhys Griffiths’ men currently head the league table on 13 points, having played a game more than Haverfordwest County in second.

Division One

No other game in the top flight saw more than three goals, with newly-promoted sides Pontypridd Town and Llantwit Major securing their first wins of the campaign, against Goytre United and Port Talbot Town respectively.

Cwmmaman United claimed the bragging rights in the Amman Valley derby, edging past Ammanford 1-0 thanks to a goal from Ashley Curtis.

Goytre and Cambrian & Clydach Vale BGC played out a 1-1 draw at Plough Road, while Haverfordwest County kept up their 100% record with a 2-1 win against Afan Lido. Ben Fawcett and Dan Williams put the Bluebirds into a 2-0 lead, before Sascha Walters pulled back a consolation goal for the Port Talbot side.

Cwmbran Celtic recorded their first ever away victory at Rhiw’r Ddar, as goals from Chris Ham, Josh Bull and Callum Wakeham sent the Celts on their way to a 3-0 win against Taffs Well.

Division Two

There were only five games in Division Two this weekend, with the pick of the results coming at the Welfare Ground where Abergavenny Town won their first game of the season; a 2-1 success against AFC Llwydcoed.

Caerau Ely claimed their fourth win of the season with a 3-0 win at home against Risca United.

After their 8-1 win against Aberdare Town in game week four, Bridgend Street were brought back down to earth with a 3-2 defeat against Caldicot Town.

Dinas Powys lost for the sixth successive game, going down 2-0 at home to Monmouth Town, who in the process claimed their second win of the season.

Division Three

It was a good weekend for Trethomas Bluebirds who defeated Panteg away from home 6-0. The Bluebirds are the early pace setters in the division, and are yet to lose this term.

Treharris overturned Penrhiwceiber Rangers 2-1, bouncing back from their last game, when they suffered a loss all the way back in August.

Penydarren suffered their first loss of the season, as they were defeated 3-2 by last season’s third placed side Trefeling BGC.

Whilst Pontyclun drew 1-1 agaist Tredegar Town, as they maintain their positive start to the campaign, amassing 10 points from their opening five fixtures.
