Bala’s inconsistency holding them back from true potential
Bala’s inconsistency is proving costly in their plans going forward.
A defeat at Aberystwyth Town, who earlier in the week were handed a 6-0 drumming from The New Saints, has seen Bala lose three games already this season.
For a club that on paper, should be challenging The New Saints, after their summer additions this summer, their inability to maintain a solid set of results is hampering their chances of success.
It’s early doors, but the only defeat in the league The New Saints have suffered is the one to the Connah’s Quay Nomads. That defeat at the Deeside Stadium was an unfortunate one too, with Greg Draper looking to have been onside when his effort was disallowed.
It’s more on the road that Bala are failing to find their feet. Two out of their three defeats have been away from home, at both Aberystwyth and Barry.
Last season, Bala found it hard to pick up pints on the road. They lost their first three away games. It’s not as bad this season, but they need to start showing that winning mentality, the ability to pick up a result away from home.
We saw in the Europa League games, how costly their inability to secure an away result was. A freak 3-0 defeat to Sammarinese outfit The Fiori made Bala’s job all the harder.
They eventually were knocked out, in a tie they really should have progressed from, considering the opposition.
Up next is the biggest test for anyone in the Welsh Premier League, away at The New Saints.
But for Bala, it’s a team they’ve yet to claim a result against.
Nine years in the top flight, Colin Caton’s men are yet to win against The New Saints in the Welsh Premier League. But Caton has masterminded a win over The New Saints before when they won their first ever Welsh Cup.
It’s early days in the Welsh Premier League and some other teams are finding it hard to put together a run. Cardiff Met who are usually strong at home, have already lost twice at home to teams who are in and about the relegation zone.
But for Bala, they need that level of consistency and performance, put together a set of results, that merits this strong playing staff.
