Citizens sign experienced defender to bolster defensive options

Bangor City FC have announced the signing of former Wales youth international and ex-Wrexham defender, Mike Williams.

Williams will go into Bangor City’s squad for their Huws Gray Alliance League fixture at the VSM Stadium tomorrow, against Llanrhaeadr.

He heads to the VSM Stadium with a wealth of experience in the English system, having also played for Kidderminster Harriers and Altrincham.

But becoming a Bangor City player isn’t his first foray into Wales, as he has previously been on the books at Llandudno and Flint Town United.

Stephen Vaughan Jnr said to BangorCityFC.co.uk“We are delighted to add someone of Mike’s quality and experience to the squad.

Having played over 100 games for Wrexham as well as a couple of seasons with Kidderminster in the Conference National his pedigree is there to see.

“Over the last couple of seasons he’s always done well when I’ve watched him for Llandudno and he knows the Welsh system inside out.

With Stevo breaking his jaw last week we where light in that area and he will go straight into the squad tomorrow.”

An ex-Wales international at U19, U21 and semi-pro levels, he joins his brother, Mark, at Nantporth.

The Williams brothers are a well-known pair in the North Wales scene, having played a key part in Alan Morgan’s Europa League qualifying campaign at Llandudno in 2015/16.

In that season, Mike was part of a stern defence at the Giant Hospitality Stadium, with Marc, a clinical striker, going onto to be named Welsh Premier League player of the year, scoring 16 goals in the campaign.
