Cambrian to host New Saints under the lights
Cambrian & Clydach Vale will host The New Saints under the lights at the M&P Wales Group Stadium in the semi-final of the Nathaniel MG Cup.
The Welsh Football League Division One side, who have reached the semi-final for the first time in their history, will host the reigning League Cup champions.
It’s the first time that the semi-final has been non-regionalised. Cambrian will welcome The New Saints to the Cambrian Academy, on the 23rd November, with a 19:45 kick off scheduled.
It is a free weekend of Welsh Premier League football, with the League Cup semi-finals taking centre stage. Cambrian’s scheduled league fixture against Llantwit Major has been moved to accommodate the tie.
The other semi-final between the Connah’s Quay Nomads and Cardiff Metropolitan will be played on Saturday, with a usual 14:30 kick off.
Cambrian launched a social media campaign, to secure television coverage for the fixture.
It’s the first meeting between the two sides in nine years. The New Saints beat Cambrian BGC 2-0 in the JD Welsh Cup in 2009.
Cambrian have already beaten three Welsh Premier League sides in Aberystwyth Town, Barry Town United and Newtown to reach this stage of the competition. The New Saints were given a bye in Round One, but have beaten comfortably Prestatyn Town and Llandudno to reach the semi-finals.
Scott Ruscoe’s side will be aiming for their fifth final in a row, having won the last four finals.
The New Saints won the Cup last year against Cardiff Metropolitan, at Park Avenue.
