Flint Town United boss McGuiness excited ahead of Gresford challenge

Flint Town United boss Niall McGuiness believes that his side’s tie against Gresford in the second round of the JD Welsh Cup is one of the ties of the round.

Flint have been drawn at home for the cup match, and will be hoping to take their league form into the match against their Huws Gray Alliance counterparts.

However, the North Wales outfit were knocked out of the Huws Gray Cup at the first hurdle this year, after winning the competition last season and will be hoping to avoid the same fate in the second round of the Welsh Cup this weekend.

But, former Rhyl boss McGuiness insists that it will be a difficult test against an organised Gresford side.

“I feel it will be a very tough tie it’s probably one of the ties of the draw.

Gresford are an organised and established outfit so we know the difficulty of the task that lies ahead. Our game plan will be to stick to our philosophy and what we do well and we will look to exploit some of Gresford’s weaknesses,” the manager said.

Flint have won seven of their 11 games in the league so far this season, having lost just once. But, Airbus are yet to drop a point in their 12 fixtures and are the front runners for the league title despite just a third of the season having been played.

McGuiness’ outfit have been ruthless in front of goal and striker Marc Cadwallader is the top scorer in the league so far, and fans will be hoping he can turn up in the game.

McGuiness is excited about the possibility of advancing in the cup, but is merely focusing on the game at hand.

“The welsh cup is a competition that means a great deal to me for a number of reasons so it’s one so it’s great to be involved in it.

I know it means a great deal to everyone at the club as well. We won’t look past this round all we can do is be focused on the task ahead,” the Flint manager said.

The two sides face off this Saturday.
