Aberystwyth Town came back from two goals down to seal a memorable win against Cardiff Metropolitan. Ashley Ruane scored what proved to be the winning goal in the dying moments of the game, and we caught up with him after the full-time whistle.
Commenting on the victory, Ruane began by saying: “I’m ecstatic. It’s brilliant to come from 2-0 down in the second half, and then to seal a 3-2 victory – I’m absolutely over the moon.”
Despite being 2-0 down with less than half an hour left in the game, the forward believed that Aber could get back into the game: “There’s a lot of quality in that dressing room, and there’s a lot of togetherness and team spirit.
We always know we’ve got a chance, and the gaffer just said go out there, get the first goal in the second half and it would be a different game.”
The Seasiders are unbeaten in five games in the league, picking up four wins along the way.
When asked what he puts the impressive run of form down to, the 33-year-old said: “The team spirit, the staff and the fans.
Everyone’s in it together, there’s a real buzz to be at Aberystwyth at the moment.”
The Black and Green’s travel to face Bala Town at Maes Tegid next Saturday (November 17th), and Ruane is expecting a tough test: “They’re a good side Bala, they’ve been a good side for a number of years.
We know what to expect, we’ve beat them once before at home, and we can beat them again.
We don’t fear anyone in this league at the moment, and we’ve just got to kick on again next week and try and get another three points.”
