Former Cardiff City defender Brazil appointed First Team Coach at Pontypridd Town
Former Cardiff City defender Derek Brazil has been appointed First Team Coach at Division One side Pontypridd Town.
The 49-year-old joins the Dragons coaching staff, following the permanent appointment of player-manager Gavin Beddard last week. Brazil will work alongside Beddard and assistant manager Chris Sims.
Brazil currently possesses the UEFA A Licence and now works as a PE Teacher, following the end of his playing career.
Carmarthen Town goalkeeper Lee Idzi recently praised Brazil for developing him as a player, during Idzi’s spell at Haverfordwest County.
Brazil had a lengthy playing career and was a youth academy product of Manchester United, making two first-team appearances.
He had loan spells with Swansea City, before making 115 appearances for Cardiff City, where he won the English Division Three title and the Welsh Cup in a four-year spell.
Before winding down his playing career by playing for English non-league side Newport County, before a spell with Inter Cardiff and Haverfordwest County.
The Republic of Ireland youth international had previously managed Haverfordwest County where he spent a total of four years in his first but was unable to stave off relegation in his second spell in 2011.
His last managerial job was with Goytre United, leading them to a 7th placed finish in 2012, but left after a year in the role.
Brazil will have the chance to return to one of his former sides this Saturday as Pontypridd Travel to the Bridge Meadow to face Haverfordwest County in the JD Welsh Cup.
They then host the Bluebirds at Leckwith Stadium in the league, having suffered a 10-1 defeat earlier on in the season under the previous management team.
