Connah’s Quay Nomads extend contract of influential forward Bakare

Connah’s Quay Nomads have extended the contract of full-time forward Michael Bakare.

The 32-year-old put pen to a paper to a further deal, with his previous contract set to expire earlier this summer.

The former Wrexham striker joined the Deeside club last year and has been a key figure under manager Andy Morrison.

As one of the few full-time professionals at the Welsh Premier League club, Bakare’s new deal means he will be at the club until the end of the 2019/2020 season.

Speaking to the-nomads.co.uk, Bakare said: “I’m very happy to have signed this extension and am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the growth of this club and it’s full-time status – I am also looking forward to enjoying more success with the team this season and next.”

The London born striker has played for a host of clubs in the English non-league scene but has enjoyed one of his better goalscoring records at Connah’s Quay.

At the Deeside Stadium, he has made more than 56 appearances, scoring a total of 24 times. Bakare scored in each round of the JD Welsh Cup last season including the final, as Connah’s Quay Nomads claimed their first Welsh Cup.

This season Bakare has made 16 appearances, scoring eight times, including a goal in the recent 6-1 rout over Cardiff Metropolitan on Saturday, helping the Nomads to top spot of the JD Welsh Premier League, as well as a semi-final in the Scottish Challenge Cup.
