Kayne McLaggon says Barry need to keep focus after securing top spot
Kayne McLaggon says Barry must keep all focus on themselves after topping the Welsh Premier League at the end of the year.
McLaggon was on the scoresheet as the Dragons narrowly beat South Wales rivals Cardiff Metropolitan at Jenner Park Stadium to go top of the league, following Connah’s Quay’s slip-up to Bala Town.
The Vale of Glamorgan side confirmed their place in the top six last Saturday against Caernarfon and currently have a two-point gap over the Nomads going into the new year.
The former Southampton forward said: “We’ve got to keep doing the work, don’t worry about the rest of them, we’re top and we’ll see how we do.
“We didn’t expect to be top, but we knew what we had in our changing room.
“We’ve got one of the best 11 to 16 in the league and but we expected to do well but maybe not top.
“Connah’s Quay aren’t far away, Bala aren’t far away as well, Newton are in there, Aberystwyth. It’s a really competitive league this year.
McLaggon has come into a purple patch in his recent outings. With three goals in three games, the forward was grabbed his eighth goal of the season, following a superb pass from Chris Hugh.
He’ll be hopeful of adding to his tally when Barry Town United make the short nine-mile trip to the Capital on New Year’s Eve to face Cardiff Metropolitan in the second part of the festive double-header.
“I’m over the moon, four wins on the bounce and obviously at the minute, I’m scoring so I’m happy as well.
“It’s all about the team and at the minute we are winning and doing really well. The league positions says that so we’ve got to keep that going now.”
“They are a really good side and you can see that today, under a lot of pressure, so we keep doing what we are doing hopefully get another result up there.
“We know it’s going to be tough to go there because we’ve got a great record here. It will be a tough game. We’ve got to go there thinking we can win.”
