Ton Pentre 0-4 Haverfordwest County: Bluebirds cruise to victory as Trundle bags a brace

Haverfordwest County narrowed the gap on Penybont to two points as they finished the year on a high after comfortably beating Ton Pentre.

All the damage was done in the first forty-five minutes. Three first-half goals put Haverfordwest on course as they cruised to victory.

Lee Trundle scored a brace, whilst Ben Fawcett and Sean Pemberton were also on the scoresheet for the Bluebirds.

The West Wales side maintained a 100% record in the final month of the year including three away victories at Briton Ferry and Pontypridd.

It was a fast paced start as both sides had a chance in the opening minutes.

Firstly Danny Williams tested Ryan Fleming from the kick-off with a curling effort, before Ben Fawcett powered a shot from just outside at the box through a body of players at the Ton Pentre goalkeeper who saved again.

The home side then had an opportunity of their own. Robbie Thomas was well-found from a pass from Josh Maksimovic and Thomas’ cross found Jordan Islip who headed over from close-range.

Islip was made to rue his missed header as Haverfordwest opened the scoring. A corner in from Elliot Scotcher found Lee Trundle who got a slight touch to direct it past Fleming for the opening goal.

Elliot Scotcher had two chances to double his sides’ lead. He took a volley from outside the box but put it over the bar. He then forced Fleming into a diving save as he hit a driven free-kick just outside the box.

Bluebirds captain Sean Pemberton doubled his sides lead not long after missing with a header. Ton Pentre were undone by a corner again as Pemberton scored with a smart finish after turning in the box, curling it low into the corner.

The second goal brought a spell of dominance and continued their onslaught of Ton Pentre. Danny Williams worked the ball well to Trundle but the 42-year-old sent his first-time shot just wide of the right-hand post on his left foot.

Haverford had their third in the 37th minute. Pentre’s defence were caught napping and Ben Fawcett was there to punish them as he slid it past Fleming.

In the last few minutes of the first half, there was a flurry of chances. Aiden Chappell-Smith almost pulled a goal back but was denied by Stephen Hall after a darting run from the Ton attacker. Danny Williams almost found Lee Trundle for Haverfordwest’s fourth as he tried to scoop the ball over Fleming.

Ton Pentre had a positive start to the second half. Nickie Jones cross caused Hall trouble as his cross bounced, but Price’s connection wasn’t a clean one.

Trundle had his second of the game to kill off any Ton Pentre fightback. After the initial corner was dealt with, Elliot Scotcher swung in a cross and there was the Bluebirds frontman to nutmeg Fleming with a cushioned header to grab Haverfordwest’s fourth.

Elliot Thomas almost added a fifth for Wayne Jones’ side after a cross from Ricky Watts, but Fleming made a smart save with his body.

Trundle almost got his hat-trick in the final stages of the game after holding off a number of challenges but fired into the side netting.

The last real act of the game was Stephen Hall preserving his clean sheet status with a superb save. Lee Price was through on goal but was denied by Hall as the Ton Pentre striker tried to place it past him.
