Gwynedd Derby chosen for live JD Welsh Cup coverage
Bangor City versus Caernarfon Town has been chosen for television coverage by Sgorio.
The two sides were drawn against each other in the standout fixture of the Round.
The two will meet at Nantporth in Round Four of the JD Welsh Cup later this month with a scheduled 19:30 kick off, which will be broadcast on S4C’s Sgorio.
Caernarfon Town currently finds themselves in a race for the final European spot in the JD Welsh Premier League. Bangor City, however, finds themselves 15 points off of league leaders Airbus UK Broughton, following their demotion last year.
It’s been more than three years since the last sides met in a competitive fixture. In the last meeting between the two sides, the then Cymru Alliance side Caernarfon Town beat the then Welsh Premier League side Bangor City.
This is the first JD Welsh Cup meeting between the two sides since 1998 when Bangor won by two goals at Farrar Road.
In the thirteen meetings in the League and League Cup, the Citizens have won seven, draw four times and lost just twice.
JD Welsh Cup fixtures are concluded on the day in the normal ninety minutes, games can go to extra time and penalties.
The two Gwynedd clubs swapped leagues when Caernarfon Town won promotion to the Premier League by winning the Cymru Alliance, whilst Bangor City who despite finishing 2nd were demoted due to failure to obtain the Tier One licence.
This could be the first time that Caernarfon meets Bangor having been in a higher division than the Citizens.
