Pontypridd Town 0-2 Cwmbran Celtic: Bull reaches century of Celtic goals in clinical display

Cwmbran Celtic’s Josh Bull scored his 100th goal for the club as they beat bottom side Pontypridd Town at Leckwith Stadium.

A first-half header from Niall Yeates and an unstoppable effort from Bull gave Challenger’s side the victory over the Dragons.

The win gives Celtic them their first League away win since September. Pontypridd have just two wins in their last ten league games.

Luke Gullick showed his intentions early on. His effort went just over the bar. Aiden Lewis then showed some neat footwork as he sold the Cwmbran Celtic defender, before forcing Watkins into his first save.

Despite early pressure from Pontypridd Town, it was the visitors who had the best chance in the opening quarter of the game. Chris Ham sent in a cross to Louis Feeley but his half-volley was hit over David Burnett’s bar.

Lee Challenger’s men took the lead against the run of play. Feeley’s well-delivered free-kick found Niall Yeates, heading past Burnett from close range.

Cwmbran should have doubled their tally, but Bull overplayed the ball. Bull later hit the post with a thunderous left-footed effort.

Celtic’s Bull was denied by the leg of Burnett after the forward weaved his way into the box.

Ponty’s route back into the match saw Gullick block his own teammate’s header on goal as he was unable to move out of the way.

Cwmbran were continuing to make chances and were denied by a goal-line clearance by Tom Farmer, after Lewis Iles missed the chance to double their lead.

Iles then had a header saved by Burnett who saved well form a Cwmbran corner.

The Ponty keeper tried to ensure he wouldn’t concede once more. Louis Feeley tried to catch Burnett out but he made a good save.

He was unable to keep out Josh Bull’s 100th Cwmbran Celtic goal though as he unleashed a powerful effort from just outside the box, giving Burnett no chance.

Bull almost had his 101st goal after a quickly taken free-kick from Christopher Ham, but Ponty’s keeper saved and Bull was substituted.

Late on, Lee Baldock’s free-kick from distance forced Lewis Watkins into a save, with Scott Hillman’s sliding effort went wide.

In the last action of the game, Alex McDowell’s free-kick was flicked by Tom Haggett and then third substitute Callum Wakeham’s attempted flick went just over the bar.
