Williams departs Citizens to link up with Black and Greens
Aberystwyth Town have confirmed the signing of Bangor City forward Marc Williams, who is one of five players to have departed the troubled Cymru Alliance side today.
Williams, 30, joined the Citizens ahead of the 2018/19 season, having spent three years with Llandudno, where he netted 27 goals in 84 appearances.
The Nantporth side yesterday released a statement outlining their current financial predicament.
Since then, along with Williams, the club has seen four players leave: Yalany Baio, Anthony Stephens, Sameron Dool and Jake Phillips, who has been recalled from his loan spell by parent club Connah’s Quay Nomads.
In a statement on atfc.org.uk, the club said: “Aberystwyth Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of experienced and wily Welsh Premier League striker Marc Williams from Bangor City.”
Having represented Wales at under-17, 19 and 21 level, the striker also made three appearances for his country at semi-professional level between 2009 and 2010.
The news of Williams’ arrival at Park Avenue coincides with the departure of Iranian striker Rio Ahmadi, who has left the Mid Wales side to join Newtown, who currently sit fourth in the Welsh Premier League.
The club statement continued: “Marc will wear the number nine shirt at Park Avenue and Town hope that he will be available to go straight into Friday’s match day squad for the Black and Greens’ home clash with Llandudno, pending paperwork clearance.”
