Y Clwb Pêl-Droed nominated for two categories at Wales Media Awards

Y Clwb Pêl-Droed has been a nominated in the News Website of the Year and Vlog/Blog of the Year categories in the 2019 Media Wales Awards.

The awards ceremony takes place on Friday, March 22, at the Mercure Holland House Hotel in Cardiff.  They will be presented by BBC Cymru Wales presenter Lucy Owen and ITV Cymru Wales’ Jonathan Hill.

The Welsh domestic news website will contend with media professionals BBC Cymru Fyw, BBC Wales News on Line and WalesOnline in the News Website of the Year Category.

WalesOnline won the category last year, following their Aberfan feature. They were also praised for their coverage of news and current affairs, alongside their sports journalism.

In the Vlog/Blog of the Year category, Y Clwb Pel-Droed are up against Blakey’s Bootroom which is overseen by WalesOnline, as well as Cwmbran Life.

This is the first time that the Blog/Vlog category has been created, ensuring that there will be a first-time winner of the award next month.

Founder Jordan Jones said: “I’m honoured that we’ve been nominated for two awards at this year’s Wales Media Awards.

“As a trainee journalist trying to improve the coverage of Welsh domestic football, to see our hard work recognised by media professionals has provided me with motivation to continue our work. 

I wish everyone who has been nominated for an award at next month’s awards, all the best.”

This is the first time that Y Clwb Pêl-Droed has been nominated for an award at the Wales Media Awards.

Set up in 2015, originally as a social media page, Y Clwb Pêl-Droed has developed into a website which aimed to improve the coverage of Welsh domestic football.

Writers such as Tom Coleman have gone on to gain full-time employment with WalesOnline, having previously written for Y Clwb Pêl-Droed.

Last year, Y Clwb Pêl-Droed was nominated in the Best International Blog at the 2018 Football Blogging Awards.
