Bridgend Street 0-3 Aberbargoed Buds: Buds sweep aside Street in commanding display

Aberbargoed Buds moved into the top half of the table after convincingly beating Bridgend Street at The Willows on Wednesday evening.

Gavin Meacham, Kane Giffard and Scott Armitage were all on the scoresheet as the Buds continued to clear their backlog of fixtures.

Fast out of the traps were Aberbargoed Buds who opened the scoring with the first attack. A minute into the game, Kane Giffard slotted past Damien Lack to provide the visitors with a perfect start.

Gavin Meacham almost doubled the Buds lead as he fired an effort just over the bar after a smart run.

Meacham was presented with another opportunity as Scott Armitage swung the ball in but the header went just wide.

He was enjoying a lot of space on the flanks and just over the half-hour mark he almost tucked his effort into the goal but Lack blocked the shot. Street had found it hard to find any rhythm in the game and failed to create any clear-cut chances in the opening half.

Buds’ Giffard was presented with a golden chance to double their lead after he stayed onside but he fired his shot over the bar.

Street’s best chance came when Callum Smith found Mike Murphy in the box but as Murphy shot the bobbling ball was cleared off the line, they were later made to rue that missed opportunity.

Just over the hour mark, Buds doubled their lead. Gavin Meacham rounded the goalkeeper and rolled his effort home.

The game was put beyond any reasonable doubt just minutes after. Scott Armitage smacked a half-volley at goal which Lack could only tip into the net.

Thomas Gameson was keen to get in on the scoring act and his drilled effort cannoned off the post.

To add insult to injury, Damien Lack was unable to play on, meaning Dean Teague had to don the gloves for the remaining minutes of the match.

Street’s search for an equaliser proved futile. Substitute David Brooks forced Cael Jones into a save at his near post but the Buds keeper kept his clean sheet intact with a good block.

Bridgend Street are now winless in the league since the 23rd of February.

Bridgend Street: Lack, Gulley, Finn, Angore, Teague, Bancroft, Dale (C), Carro, White, Smith, Murphy (Brooks 62).

Aberbargoed Buds: C.Jones, M.Jones, Vaughne, Thomas, Davies, Dowler (R.Hughes 49), Armitage (C), Gameson, Giffard, Loss (A.Hughes 91), Meacham.
