Penybont captain Rhys Wilson has put credit onto manager Rhys Griffiths and his coaching staff for guiding them to the Division One title.
Griffiths guided Penybont to promotion and a week later the Division One title, three years after taking over.
Boot were crowned Champions after narrowly beating Undy Athletic at The Causeway on Saturday afternoon thanks to a Luke Borrelli goal.
Wilson who kept a clean sheet in Penybont’s title winning match said: “It’s not just today. It has been over a few years really when Griffo and Giles came in. They completely upped everything.
“They’ve been top. They work so hard. It’s not part time for them they’re constantly on it.”
Asked how Penybont may fair in a division they’ve yet to experience, Wilson was confident that they could compete.
“For what we can offer I think if we keep working hard and together. We’ll give it a go, it’s nothing to fear and no one knows much about Penybont.
“This team has got so much. We’re still undefeated and we never set out to do that. We’re still going.
“We’re working so hard on everything and I think we’ve got so much more to give. A day like today is worth all the hard work.
“It’s a new beginning starting today. I’m looking forward to the future now.”
Penybont’s confirmed moment of promotion was one that they couldn’t control. Instead they had to sit back and hope for Cwmamman United and Cambrian & Clydach to drop points.
Both teams did and with Penybont securing the right result on Saturday, bolstered by Cambrian’s defeat to Cwmamman, they were crowned Champions on their terms.
“It was a bit strange last week. We were all in our own houses last week doing our own thing and we had a text that told us we were promoted. We were buzzing but we’ll definitely enjoy what we’ve got here now.
“We set out to get promoted, we didn’t set out to win the league.”
Penybont now have a Welsh Football League Cup semi-final against Division Three Ynysygerwn to look forward to as they aim for a League and Cup double.
