STM Sports promoted to the FAW Championship

STM Sports have been promoted to the FAW Championship after defeating Bridgend Street.

The Mellons needed just a point against their City rivals but instead defeated them to earn promotion in front of a crowd over 100. They now have to earn five points from their final four fixtures to earn the Division Two title.

Pending their Tier Two Licence application, STM Sports will be playing in the first ever FAW Championship next season.

Former club chairman Nigel Barcham said: “Tonight was a very special night in the history of STM Sports AFC

“When I look back when we started in the lowest possible division in the Cardiff Combination Football League it has been an incredible journey.”

“Just to say that a little club like us from St Mellon’s to get to the new FAW Championship, just one league below the Welsh Premier League, is just an incredible feat.”

This is the highest level of football that the club will be playing at. They have earned numerous promotions over the years and at the start of the decade were in the South Wales Alliance League.

A portion of the squad have been on the clubs rise from the Cardiff Combination Football League to the second tier of Welsh football.

Last season they missed out on promotion to Division One of the WelshLeague by three points, with Ammanford going up at their expense.
