Caerau Ely 5-5 STM Sports: Late Conteh header earns Mellons draw in ten-goal thriller

Lamin Conteh’s 96th-minute header salvaged a draw for title-chasing STM Sports in a ten-goal thriller against promotion Caerau Ely.

STM fell behind twice, once in the opening minute and then with eight minutes to go, having surrendered a two goal lead, before Conteh’s header at the death rescued the Cardiff South club.

Lamin Conteh scored four times whilst Caerau Ely had five different goalscorers with Andrew Smith, Dylan Amin, Jerome Maynard, Rameer Outlaw and Tom Fry all on the scoresheet.

With just thirty seconds played, Caerau Ely had the perfect start. Tom Fry’s deflected shot had Exauce Dimonekene flat-footed for the opening goal.

In search of an equaliser, Ricardo Mackenzie’s header hit the crossbar from Joe Evans free-kick.

STM drew level through Conteh as he finished past Elliot Matthews after good wide play.

Josh Graham gave STM Sports the lead after heading past Matthews from a Joe Evans cross.

Conteh grabbed his second after Calum Bateman squared it for him to finish from six yards. 

Corey Spencer made a heroic block to deny Bateman from putting STM further in front.

Ely had pulled one goal back as Dylan Amin leapt high for a looping header over Dimonekene.

Minutes after the restart, Conteh earned the match ball as he powered a thunderous effort past Matthews.

Andrew Smith almost reduced the deficit as Smith forced Dimonekene to save after showing good control. 

After Danny Hooper tested the keeper, his corner was met by Outlaw for his second goal as Caerau pulled one back.

A minute after Amin’s second, Caerau were level. Rameer Outlaw’s ball carved open the STM defence with Andrew Smith scoring with a composed finish past the goalkeeper.

Rameer Outlaw almost put Ely in front in the final quarter after Hooper’s long ball was headed just over by the winger.

Cwrt-yr-Ala Road erupted as Ely retook the lead for the second time, completing a turnaround of two goals. Caerau Ely captain Jerome Maynard rose highest to header past Dimonekene. 

With SIX additional minutes played, Lamin Conteh leveled the game up after a short corner from his blocked free-kick was headed past the four-goal hero, earning his side a draw against promotion hopefuls.

STM Sports can now win the title away at Aberbargoed Buds with a point whilst Caerau Ely face a number of permutations to claim promotion to the FAW Championship.
