Thomas takes the reins at newly-promoted Bluebirds

Abertillery Bluebirds have announced that Lee Thomas will take over the reins as First Team Manager, as the club prepare for their first season back in the Welsh Football League.

The Bluebirds will compete in Division Three of the Welsh League next term, after achieving promotion from the Gwent County League Division One – winning 21 of their 26 league games.

A club statement read: “Abertillery Bluebirds are pleased to announce the appointment of Lee Thomas as 1st team manager for our return to the Welsh Football League next season.

Thommo” as he is known to many will bring a wealth of experience from his previous years of management where he has achieved success in both league and cup competitions.

The Ebbw Fach valley side last competed in the Welsh Football League in the 2013-14 season, when they finished 17th and were subsequently relegated.

But after four steady, consistent seasons in the Gwenty County League Division One, they achieved their aim of returning to the Welsh League and will now hope that Thomas can help to establish the club in the fourth tier of Welsh football.

Thomas is not the only new arrival at Abertillery Sports Centre, as the club explained in the statement: “He [Thomas] will be joined by a backroom team of Ben Price, Shane Jones & Jo Heard who all share the same ambitions and are looking forward to the coming season.
