The Bala Town player who helped Liverpool to a sixth Champions League triumph

Former Welsh Premier League player Conall Murtagh has helped Liverpool to a Champions League trophy.

A Mohamed Salah penalty in the opening two minutes, as well as a late strike from substitute Divock Origi gave Jurgen Klopp’s side the victory.

As Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool players celebrated their first piece of silverware under the German, former Welsh Premier League midfielder Connall Murtagh was a part of it having worked with the first team this year.

Murtagh is the First Team Fitness coach at Liverpool and has traded playing in the Welsh top flight to working with stars like Mohamed Salah, Robert Firmino, and Virgil Van Dijk.

33-year-old Murtagh has been with Liverpool since 2012. He initially joined the academy of Liverpool before working with the first team in 2017.

Despite his commitments to Liverpool, Murtagh is still a registered player to the Lakesiders. Last season he made two appearances for the Gwynedd club.

Away from Bala Town, the former Northern Ireland youth international has also featured for the Connah’s Quay Nomads, Rhyl, Aberystwyth Town and The New Saints. 

In 2006/2007, he was named in the Welsh Premier League ‘Team of the Season’.’

He has been at Maes Tegid for eight consecutive years.
