Llandudno announce plans for new stand and clubhouse facility

Llandudno FC have submitted plans for their Giant Hospitality Stadium to undergo a major upgrade, as reported by Shane Brennan for the North Wales Pioneer.

The club is proposing the construction of a new two-storey building on its ground, which would serve as both a club house and stand with terrace seating included.

And the prospect of a stadium upgrade will come as welcome news for Llandudno supporters, who had seldom to celebrate in the 18/19 season as the club was relegated to the second tier from the JD Welsh Premier League.

Standing at 11 metres-high, the proposed structure will have a capacity of 123 for spectators and include a bar.

Club officials will be hopeful of the new stand and clubhouse being approved by the local authority, with Llandudno Town Council and planning officers both supporting the proposal.

Members of Conwy’s planning committee will meet on Wednesday to discuss the plans, with a report to the councillors on the panel stating:

“The proposal is for a two storey building containing changing rooms, executive suite and terrace seating to improve facilities of the club, and it replaces existing ad-hoc buildings and containers at the site.

“Whilst the proposed stand would be visible from the surrounding area, it would be a significant improvement on the existing arrangements on-site.

“Officers consider that the development would not significantly alter the character or appearance of the locality, the street scene, or the nearest principal areas of the historic landscape.”

The plans mean the club will be building both on and off the pitch, as they seek promotion back into the top flight, having spent the past four seasons in the JD Welsh Premier and played in the Europa League first qualifying round in the 16/17 campaign.

Llandudno have already had a busy summer, initially appointing ex Blackpool and Leicester man Gary Taylor-Fletcher as manager before he was forced to instantly step down due to work commitments.

They quickly moved to replace him with A Licence holder and former Rhyl coach Matthew Jones, with Stuart Howson as his assistant.

Jones has confirmed a host of new signings ready for the new season, with club stalwart Danny Hughes, Scott McHarrie, and Flint’s Aron Jones all committed to the Seasiders.
