Connah’s Quay Nomads sign left-back Callum Roberts
Connah’s Quay Nomads have signed Newtown full-back Callum Roberts.
The Wales C international joins the Nomads as they prepare for their fourth European campaign.
The 20-year-old made 22 appearances for Newtown this season.
For his performances in the Welsh Premier League, Roberts was called up to the Wales C squad. He came on as a 93rd-minute substitute in Wales’ 2-2 draw with England.
Roberts was previously on the books of Shrewsbury Town and The New Saints.
Speaking to the-nomads.co.uk, manager Andy Morrison said: “We have been actively looking for a left back since Lawrence Wilson retired in January. Callum was our number one target and we are delighted to have signed him.
“Having released ten players at the end of the season, it is vital that we add to the squad for the forthcoming European campaign and then on to challenging on four fronts next season and I feel that by making Callum our first signing, we have done that.”
Roberts is the third departure from Latham Park in as many days. Forward Luke Boundford left the Mid Wales club after eight years of service at the club. In total, he scored 61 goals in 220 games.
Forward Porya Ahmadi has also left having re-joined Aberystwyth Town. Ahmadi joined the Robins from the Green & Blacks in January.
Connah’s Quay will find out their European opponents next Wednesday.
