Barry to face Cliftonville as Met face tough test against Progrès.

Barry Town United will face Cliftonville and Cardiff Metropolitan will play Progrès Niederkorn it has been revealed.

The UEFA Europa League preliminary draw took place in Nyon this afternoon and the two Welsh sides found out their face.

Barry face a trip across the Irish Sea to face Cliftonville, whilst Cardiff Metropolitan have a tough ask, as they are drawn against Progrès Niederkorn. 

Barry have home advantage first and host Cliftonville at Leckwith Stadium on the 27th July, with kickoff to be decided.

Met face a trip to Luxembourg on the 27th June. Niederkorn have confirmed that they will play their home leg at the Stade Municipal de la Ville de Differdange, the home ground of FC Differdange 03. 

Barry will then travel to the Solitude the week later, whilst Met host Progres at Leckwith. 

Progrès Niederkorn previously beat Scottish Premier League side Rangers in 2017.

Cliftonville’s previous experience against Welsh sides was a 2-1 defeat to The New Saints. They lost the home leg to The New Saints, after drawing 1-1 at Park Hall.

This year the final will take place at the Stadion Energa Gdańsk, Poland. 

A Welsh team has yet to make the group stages of a European competition. The closest being when The New Saints lost in the play-off round to CSKA Sofia in 2011.
