The Bangor City FC Supporters’ Trust have today unveiled the name and crest of the recently-formed, fan-owned club in Bangor.

A statement to the media, which laid out the reasoning behind the decisions that have been taken, read: “The team’s name, Clwb Pêl-Droed Bangor 1876 Football Club, celebrates the sporting tradition and the foundations of organised football in the City of Bangor.

After a process which saw members invited to propose names for the fan-owned phoenix club, Bangor 1876 was carried as the preferred choice.

The Association became a Supporters’ Community Mutual on May 31, and has since been known as a Supporters’ Trust.

The statement continued: “The name Bangor 1876 is an acknowledgement and homage to the origins of organised football in Bangor, which can be traced back to a public meeting held in the Magistrates Room on 18 December 1876.

“Then, as now, the aim was to ensure the continuity of competitive football of the highest possible standard in the city and its catchment area.

It is expected that an announcement will shortly be made, detailing the club’s colours as well as a venue for the team to play home matches at.

Bangor 1876 has also unveiled that the City of Bangor coat of arms will be adopted as the official club crest.

The choice of crest reflects the club’s commitment to serve the local community, and preserve its proud footballing heritage whilst engaging with supporters from Bangor, the surrounding area and further afield.

The club will discover the decision of the Football Association of Wales on which tier they are to be placed in on June 16.
