Barry Town United have signed former Football League player Jack Compton.

Compton joins from Vanarama National League side Chippenham Town.

The 30-year-old is the second summer arrival at the club after the Glamorgan side signed Carmarthen Town defender Luke Cummings.

Manager Gavin Chesterfield said to BarryTown.co.uk : “It’s no secret I’ve wanted to bring Jack to the club for some time.

His pedigree and background stand for itself and I’m delighted to have him at the club ahead of our Europa League Campaign and JD Welsh Premier League Season.”

The Cardiff-born winger began his career with Portsmouth as a youth player.

He had two spells with the South Coast side after signing from Falkirk. Compton later moved on to Colchester United, Hartlepool United, Yeovil Town and then Newport County, before dropping into the English non-league with Bath in 2017.

Most of his playing time in the Football League came with Hartlepool United, where he made 55 appearances.

He is a former teammate of former Barry midfielder and now Newport County manager Mike Flynn.

Compton made a total of 26 appearances for Chippenham Town last season, helping them to a 13th placed finish.
