FAW Championship: A geographical look at North & South divisions
With the 2019/2020 FAW Championship set to launch this summer, it’s time for a geography lesson.
Are you intrigued on how far some clubs have to travel to complete in Wales’ second tier?
And will the restructuring of the league make for better travel?
The North and South Championship divisions replace the Huws Gray Alliance and the Welsh Football League Division One.
The North saw three teams from feeder leagues feed into the inaugural Northern Championship. Llandudno were relegated from the Welsh Premier League last season. Corwen, Llanfair and Llangefni Town were all promoted. Joining them in the second tier were Colwyn Bay, who made the switch from the English pyramid system, making for a 17-team league.
The South saw three teams go up and three teams go down. Two Cardiff clubs Caerau Ely and STM Sports were promoted, alongside Swansea University. Llanelli joined the FAW Championship South after their relegation.
Below is the maps of both the North and South divisions.
