Bala Town sign Spittle as they retain key players
Bala Town have swooped for defender Jonny Spittle following his release from Connah’s Quay.
Spittle is Colin Caton’s first signing of the summer after a number of key departures.
He is a direct replacement for Anthony Miley, who moved to English non-league side Marine last month. Club top goalscorer Steven Tames also left the club, joining Ashton United.
The 24-year-old played 16 times for the Nomads after 16 months at the Deeside Stadium.
He has previous experience in the league with Aberystwyth Town, Airbus UK Broughton and Llandudno. Spittle was previously on the books of professional clubs Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic.
As well as their newest addition, Bala have been able to retain some key players.
Ashley Morris, Chris Venables and Henry Jones have all put pen to paper on new deals at Maes Tegid.
Morris will enter his eighth straight season with the club. He missed the final six weeks of the season and play-off final defeat with a broken foot.
The goalkeeper followed in the footsteps of club captain Chris Venables, who has earned two Wales C caps since his move to the Gwynedd.
Influential midfielder Henry Jones was one of the players who were earliest at showing his commitment to the club. After a season back in the Welsh top flight after a move from AFC Fylde, Jones earned a Wales C call-up alongside his Bala teammate Venables.
Anthony Stephens, Kieran Smith, Mike Hayes, Nathan Burke, Sean Smith, Shaun Kelly, and Stuart Jones have also committed to the club, as the Lakesiders prepare for an assault charge for a European spot.
Ryan Valentine and Stuart Fisher will also remain as part of Colin Caton’s backroom staff.
