Following the departure of Steve Bruce to Newcastle on Wednesday, former Wales manager Chris Coleman has emerged as the second favourite to take over the vacant managerial role at Hillsborough.
Former Owls player Lee Bullen, who took over as caretaker manager following Bruce’s departure, is favourite to be given the job on a permanent basis.
The former Swansea City defender is currently at fives with Sky Bet to replace Bruce.
Coleman, who was at the helm during Wales’ memorable run to the semi-finals of the European Championship in 2016, has been out of work since May after being sacked by Chinese outfit Hebei China Fortune.
With a club coaching CV that includes the likes of Fulham, Real Sociedad, Coventry City and Sunderland, Coleman may be tempted to make a return to the managing in the UK.
Coleman’s five-year stint in charge of his country came to an end in November 2017, when he resigned to take over at the Stadium of Light.
His stay with the Black Cats was short lived, however.
After taking over in November 2017, he was released from his contract in April 2018 after the club’s relegation to League One was confirmed.
Should Coleman, 49, be appointed as Bruce’s successor, he would become the club’s fifth manager in just four years, following Stuart Gray, Carlos Carvalhal, Jos Luhukay and Bruce.
