Wales’ top-flight league has been renamed to the Cymru Premier League as part of a new brand identity for the top two tiers of domestic football.
It moves on from its former name of the Welsh Premier League, a title which had been used since 2002.
The second tier leagues have followed suit, having been named JD Cymru North and JD Cymru South.
Head of Marketing and Commercial at the FAW, Ian Davies, said: “We are thrilled that JD have extended their support of Welsh domestic football.
“The successful pyramid restructure has brought Tier 2 under the control of the FAW for the first time, and we are very pleased to have such a well- established, national brand partnering with us as the title sponsor of all three divisions.
“JD’s commitment to Welsh football is unquestionable, and we are delighted that they will be the inaugural title sponsor of the new FAW league system for the next seven seasons.”
The change comes as the Football Association of Wales assume control of the second tier, with the Northern League replacing the Cymru Alliance, and the Southern League replacing Welsh Football League Division One.
JD will continue their commitment to Welsh football by sponsoring the second tiers also. JD Sports already sponsor the top flight and the Welsh Cup.
