“It’s my all-time aspiration” – Dr Kerry Harris speaks ahead of Cardiff Met’s UWCL campaign

Cardiff Metropolitan manager Dr Kerry Harris expressed that it is her “all-time aspiration” to qualify for the UWCL knockout stages.

Met sealed their spot in the qualifying stages of the UWCL by securing the Welsh Premier Women’s League title back in March; they went unbeaten in the league with 12 victories and just two draws.

No Welsh side has ever qualified for the knockout stages of Europe’s biggest club competition, and with this, in mind, Dr. Kerry Harris is using this as an incentive to push on for qualification.

“It’s my all-time aspiration (to qualify for the knockout stages), and I have always said as soon as that happens, I’m retiring.

“We’ve already had a taste of Champions League; we’ve been at the stage which we were just happy to be there. That is a real achievement in itself.

“Over the last couple of years, we have got more competitive and the aspirations have been to get out of that group.

“Ultimately, we want to be the first (Welsh team to qualify for the knockout stages), and there is no reason why we shouldn’t be the first.”

The Archers begin their UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign next Wednesday against the Slovenian side, Pomurje who are the hosts of the UWCL qualifiers.

Three days later the side will face Scotland’s Hibernian followed by the final qualifier against Georgian side WFC Nike.
