Cardiff Met Women: Archers finish Champions League qualifying on record high
Cardiff Metropolitan finished their UEFA Women’s Champions League group with a convincing win over Georgian champions, FC Nike in Slovenia.
Met’s player of the season last year, Madison Schupbach bagged herself a brace alongside Naomi Clipston. Robyn Pinder also scored.
Today’s win saw the Archers record the best-ever performance for a Welsh side in the competition ever.
Schupbach opened the scoring with a volley on the edge of the area. The American then doubled Met’s advantage hitting a left-footed strike with conviction past Ezgi Çağlar.
Clipston scored her first of the match after she tapped a rebound home after her penalty was saved by substitute goalkeeper Ekaterina Miklashevich.
Pinder put the game beyond any reasonable doubt as she nodded home from a corner.
Clipston finished it off after she found herself in plenty of space in the box and stroked it home past the keeper.
Lizi Mtskerashvili did add a consolation for Nike in stoppage time from a free-kick.
The Welsh side miss out on a spot in the round of 32, finishing behind Hibernian who finished top of the group winning all three of their matches.
