RECAP: Hood strike seals opening day win for Barry

Penybont host their first-ever JD Cymru Premier game against Barry Town United.

Seven-time Golden Boot winner Rhys Griffiths takes his Penybont side into the top tier in his third season in management, following last season’s Welsh League title success.

Barry finished third in the Cymru Premier last season, earning qualification to the UEFA Europa League, where they lost to Cliftonville this summer.

Penybont claimed a victory over Goytre United in the Nathaniel MG Cup, whilst Barry Town United exited the competition to a lower league side for a second consecutive season.

We could see a brother versus brother match-up, with Penybont’s most recent recruit Keenan Patten, being the younger brother of Barry midfielder Robbie.
