Welsh Groundhop 2019: Everything you need to know about Gwent Groundhop

This weekend, football fans from across the UK will descend to Wales as part of an ongoing tradition.

A groundhop is where games are staggered over the course of few days, to allow for supporters to attend a number of games. 

Instead of all league fixtures being played on a Saturday, the games will take place on Friday and finish on Monday.

It is the first full weekend of Gwent County League and the fixtures will take place over the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend. 

The Groundhog is in its 18th consecutive groundhop, following last years trip around the South Wales Alliance League. 

The Fixtures:

Friday 23rd August – Oak v Usk Town – Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre (7 30 pm)

Saturday 24th August – Coed Eva v Newport Saints – The Birches (11 am) 

Saturday 24th August – New Inn v Rhymney – Woodfield Road – (2 pm) 

Newport Corinthians v AC Pontymister- Coronation Park (5pm)

Sunday 24th August – Cefn Fforest v Gilwern & District – Britannia Fields (2 pm) 

Sunday 24th August – Wattsville v PILL YMCA – Pontllanfraith 3G (5 pm) 

Monday 25th August – Abertillery Excelsiors v Villa Dino Christchurch – Jim Owen Field (11 am)

Monday 25th August – Pentwynmawr Athletic v Lucas Cwmbran –  Pentwynmawr Welfare – (2 pm) 

Monday 25th August – Newport Civil Service v Abercarn United – Shannon Road (5 pm)
