Wales manager Ryan Giggs has revealed that Paul Dummett has put his international career aside.
Giggs was considering playing the Newcastle United defender for the upcoming qualifier against Azerbaijan, but now Dummett is focusing on just his club career.
“I spoke to Paul and he just really wanted to concentrate on club football,” revealed Giggs.
“He felt that he’s had a lot of hamstring problems earlier this season and he wanted to make sure he is fit for Newcastle.
“I’ve got centre halves who are playing. I was considering him for that centre half position but it’s not a problem.
He had won five caps for Wales, since making his debut in 2014.
The 27-year-old once ruled himself out of international contention in 2017.
Asked whether it was the end of Dummett’s Wales career, Giggs said: “I think that will be it.”
“He just wants to concentrate on club football. I’ve got to respect that and I have players in that position who are playing so I’m not fussed about that.
“Obviously he is playing in the Premier League, he’s a good defender but I’ve got options.”
Dummett played in the friendly victory over Trinidad & Tobago in March, with his last competitive appearance being a defeat to Denmark.
