Brecon Corries defend Mid Wales League move

Brecon Corries have defended their decision to move into the Mid Wales League following recent criticism.

Corries moved from the South Wales Alliance League to the Mid Wales League South following a 73-year exile.

The Radnorshire side have scored 93 goals in their opening seven league fixtures, conceding just once.

On two occasions this season, The Corries have scored more than twenty goals in a league match, with their most recent being a 20-0 victory over Felindre.

Their move has been met by some criticism on social media.

“We moved sidewards and that’s as simple as it is. We’ve not attempted to move directly into Tier 4 and rightly so,” said vice-chairman Barrie Jones.

“We have to earn promotion into Tier 4 and not expect it because we played in the Alliance League Premier.

“This criticism is just a very small part of a significantly bigger picture for the Corries.

“We won’t let it even scratch the surface of what’s a very respectful, determined and family focussed football club who aspire to play at the highest level possible.

“Moving sidewards wasn’t a decision the club took lightly but the club is wholeheartedly focusing on the job in hand.

The Mid Wales League South is the same equivalent in the tiering system of the Welsh pyramid as the South Wales Alliance League Premier Division, but The Corries now have an alternative route in the Welsh system.

Brecon would be promoted to the Mid Wales League Division Two (the fourth tier), rather than the Welsh League Division Two, which is also the fourth tier.
