Carmarthen Town have named Danny Thomas as caretaker manager following the temporary departure of Neil Smothers.

The 34-year-old steps up from his position as assistant manager to take over from UEFA Pro Licence coach Smothers.

Smothers stood down from his role due to ‘personal circumstances’ cited by the club, forcing him to be temporarily absent from his duties.

The statement followed by saying: “Our coach Danny Thomas will assume Neil’s dudes with immediate effect.

“Club officials have every confidence in his ability to look after the team until Neil returns.”

Thomas has spent most of his career playing for Carmarthen Town, before a brief spell with Haverfordwest County.

Formerly a three-season pro at Cardiff City, Thomas also has previous playing experience of playing in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Cup.

Smothers was appointed as manager in May 2018, he guided them to a ninth-place finish in his first full season in the Cymru Premier last season.

Thomas officially began his reign at Richmond Park with a narrow 2-1 defeat to the Connah’s Quay Nomads.
