Joe Ledley: Mike Flynn hoping to sign Wales midfielder

Michael Flynn says Newport County are hoping to sign Wales midfielder Joe Ledley.

Ledley was released by Derby County in February and since then he has been on the search for a new club.

The 32-year-old has been training with Cardiff City to maintain his fitness.

“Can we get him? I am not quite sure, said Flynn to BBC Sport Wales.

Flynn said: “He asked me for tickets, he’s come to the game, I’ve spoken to Joe quite regularly,”

“Is there an opportunity there? I don’t know, I’ll know more next week.

Capped 77 times for Wales, Ledley has played just 45 minutes under Ryan Giggs.

Ledley was a reported target of Dutch side Fortuna Sittard. He also featured for Cypriot outfit Pafos in pre-season.

“I’ll speak to Joe and if there is anything, then he will come in and train first.

“He’s been training with a Championship club [Cardiff] and he keeps himself in good shape, there is no fat on him.

“Is it close? No. Have I have spoken to him? Yes.

“Theoretically signing him is not ruled out, no. But I still think Joe could play at a higher level. So we will see.”
