Newtown 1-0 Cardiff Met: Kenton strike sees Met slump to a second defeat

Joseph Kenton scored the decisive goal as Newtown secured a close-fought win over Cardiff Metropolitan at Latham Park.

Keaton scored the winner after being played in by Alex Fletcher as the Robins move five points ahead of Airbus Broughton. They narow their gap onto Met to just two points.

Met substitute Eliot Evans hit the outside of the post in injury time and have now gone five games in a row without a win all competitions.

Match-winner Kenton had the first chance of the game, the 21-year-old midfielder headed over from Nick Rushton’s cross on the right.

Guto Williams went close but he saw his deflected shot go over before Kenton’s low shot went straight into the arms of Lang, who held well from the advancing Niall Flint as the game went into halftime scoreless.

Lang did well again to save well from Flint’s deflected looped effort 12 minutes into the second half before Joel Edwards’s header went just over David Jones’s crossbar.

The deadlock was broken with 20 minutes into the second half after a defence-splitting ball by Fletcher found Kenton.

The midfielder took the ball into the area before firing a thunderous low shot past Lang.

With time running out for the students, substitute Eliot Evans picked up the ball in the 93rd minute and turned his man before unleashing a low shot that beat Jones but not the far post as the Met fell to defeat for the second game in a row.
