Craig Sampson steps down as Young Guns manager

The former Caerau Ely manager guided the club to the Cymru South last season

Cymru South basement side Caerau Ely have this evening announced that they have accepted the resignation of manager Craig Sampson.

After gaining promotion from the Welsh Football League Division One last season, the Young Guns have struggled in the second-tier, yet to win a game in the league.

A statement, posted on the Club’s Twitter account, read: “Caerau (Ely) FC is very disappointed to announce that it has reluctantly agreed to accept the resignation of Craig Sampson as First Team Manager, who will be leaving the Club with immediate effect.”

The Cardiff side find themselves at the foot of the Cymru South table, eight points from safety after drawing two and losing nine of their 11 league games to date.

Sampson arrived at Cwrt-yr-Ala Road in the 2012-13 season to assist then-manager Nana Baah, before taking control in December 2017 after Baah had stepped down.

The statement confirmed that Gus Brandon will take interim charge while the Club searches for Sampson’s successor.

Isaac Berry will continue in his role as assistant manager.
