Ynysddu Welfare: Ben Murphy stands down as manager
Ynysddu Welfare manager Ben Murphy has stood down from his role as manager.
Murphy – custodian to the Ddu’s for twenty years – stands down after three years as manager.
During his time as manager at the Caerphilly, club reached the third round of the Welsh Cup, losing narrowly to the Cefn Druids.
He also led Welfare to the Division Two title in the Gwent County league before a second-place finish in the Premier Division in 2018/2019.
Murphy was also involved in the Welfare’s maiden FAW Youth Cup after they had accidentally entered the competition despite not having a youth team.
A statement on the official website cited the need for fresh ideas behind Murphy’s reasoning for stepping down: “It’s been a very difficult decision but it was felt a change was needed to freshen things up to keep the club progressing in the way it has over the last three seasons.”
The club say they have started the recruitment process for a new manager and an appoint will be made in due course.
Ynysddu Welfare are currently fourth in the Gwent Premier Division and are twelve points behind league leaders Blaenavon Blues.
Ynysddu take on Caerleon at the Cold Bath Road on December 7 in their first game without Murphy at the helm.
