Barry Town United 1-1 Cardiff Metropolitan: Archers held to a draw by Barry

Cardiff Metropolitan were forced to settle for a draw despite dominating Barry Town United at Jenner Park Stadium.

Jordan Lam’s 22nd-minute goal cancelled out Jordan Cotterill’s opener as each side picked up their fourth point in two games.

Met had the majority of the chances in both halves with Mike Lewis forced into action on a number of occasions.

Barry briefly moved into fourth as they await the result of Caernarfon versus Bala. Met moved a point closer to the top six.

Barry Town United scored with their first meaningful opportunity as they made Met pay for a mistake.

Jordan Cotterill dispossessed his opposite captain Bradley Woolridge in midfield to carry the ball inside the box and scored with a neat finish under Will Fuller.

Met sought an immediate response and Luke Cooper had to be alert to block Chris Baker’s cross, almost sliding the ball into his own net in the process.

The visitors were creating all the opportunities as they tried to get back into the match.

Neat play by the tricky Jordan Lam forced Mike Lewis into a save as he weaved past the Met defence.

Mael Davies then followed up as his half-hit volley went just over Lewis’ bar.

Eliot Evans a minute later saw his low shot just past the post as Met continued to threaten Barry.

Met were rewarded for their endeavour as they equalised through Lam.

The 25-year-old curled an effort from outside the box with Will Evans causing a diversion for Lewis to be off-put.

Barry had a number of calls for a penalty as Cotterill and Kayne McLaggon went down in the box. Cotterill’s appeal saw him unable to continue after injuring his shoulder.

Lewis denied Joe Evans his first Met goal as the defender forced the Barry keeper into a fine save as he touched on a shot from Eliot Evans’ free-kick.

Chris Baker followed up with an opportunity from the resulting corner-kick as his dipped shot was tipped over the bar.

Barry were under the cosh but had a rare opportunity as Luke Cooper headed a shot behind from Sion Spence’s corner-kick in the final action of the half.

Gavin Chesterfield made another enforced change as Sion Spence made way for Rhys Abbruzzesse at the break.

Met continued to threaten in the second-half as they tried to grab hold of the game.

Lam’s floated cross found Eliot Evans but as he took the ball down he shot straight at Lewis.

Substitute Curtis Watkins had to be substituted as Drew Fahiya was sent on for a patched-up Barry Town.

Lewis forced into more action as Will Evans’ left-footed free-kick was well held by the Barry goalkeeper.

Met were almost victims of a smash and grab with Barry having a shot cleared off the line.

Callum Sainty’s free-kick found Cooper but as he attempted to slide it home, Emlyn Lewis cleared off the line in what was a terrific performance from the Wales C international.

Neither team could force any real opportunity in stoppage time as the two had to settle for a draw.
