Bangor City 1-0 Porthmadog: Agyemang header secures bragging rights in Gwynedd Derby
Bangor City triumphed in a 1-0 victory over Gwynedd rivals Porthmadog in a feisty affair between the two JD Cymru North sides.
A first-half looping header from Bangor City’s target man Emmanuel Agyemang was the decider between the two sides who faced at Nantporth.
Other than the goal, neither side had a huge amount of clear cut chances however Bangor City saw them more frequently than Porthmadog.
Bangor picked up their eighth point in four games as they continued their four-game unbeaten run.
Porthmadog’s torrid away form continues having won just twice on the road this season.
Both teams defended well with last-ditch tackles and blocks being prominent to stopping either side score.
Bangor City took control of the game in the first-quarter by striking the games vital blow.
The defining goal was a header from Agyemang as he headed home from De Maria’s well-delivered cross.
Pedro Pasculli’s side had calls for a penalty with Francesco Serafino being brought down in the box.
Porthmadog goalkeeper Paul Pritchard was able to save Eugenio Dalia’s effort after the defender’s dribble from midfield.
The game took a turn towards the end of the half with Porthmadog giving away multiple free kicks which eventually ended in retaliation from the Bangor players.
In the last five minutes, Bangor seemed to be taking the sting out of the game by holding onto possession to decrease the chance of a Porthmadog equaliser.
Melvin McGinness also impressed with some flicks in the first half however Porthmadog struggled to find him in space to punish Bangor City.
Porthmadog seemed to miss a creative spark as occasionally they would break through however poor decision making or lack of support lead to possible chances to score being missed.
Salvatore Pascarella and Francesco Serafino were creating chances in and around the box where Agyemang was unlucky not to score a few more.
As Bangor sought a second goal to assure themselves, they were whiskers wide when Nicolas Delvecchio sent a shot past the post.
Midfielder Evgenio Dalia also impressed showing tenacity to win the ball back and play forward passes into areas Bangor could work from.
Bangor City were able to hold out for the victory as they controlled the game in stoppage time.
The win leaves Bangor one win away from fifth place Rhyl who also have a game in hand over Bangor with Guilsfield and Conwy Borough between the two also fighting to climb the table.
Tonight’s loss for the visitors means they remain in 15th place.
