Cwmbran Celtic: Meechan and Sommers join Celtic

Cwmbran Celtic have bolstered their front line by signing Lewis Sommers and Tom Meechan.

Tom Meechan moves to Celtic Park from Merthyr Town whilst Sommers moves from Gwent side Goytre.

He left Penydarren Park in October and has now moved to the Welsh system for the first time in his career.

Meechan joins Cwmbran Celtic after scoring 10 goals in 19 appearances for Merthyr Town.

The 28-year-old had a brief stint with Newport County in 2016 after spending a majority of his career in the English non-league system.

The attacking duo replaces Tom Neville and Zac Osborne who left for Port Talbot Town and Croesyceiliog respectively.

Having secured the signing of Meechan, manager Nicky Morgan said: “Tom is a prolific goal scorer who will add real quality to our attack,

“An ex-pro with Newport County, we are hoping his experience will not only help us climb the league table but be a great help to the young players we have in the squad.”

Joining Meechan at Cwmbran Celtic is Lewis Sommers.

“Lewis joins us from Goytre and brings with him a wealth of experience at Southern League and Welsh League level over the last 10 to 12 years,” added assistant manager Simon Truman.

“A huge presence in and around the box and looking at him to score and create goals for us in the second half of the season.”

The duo could make their first-team debuts against Undy Athletic on January 4.
